  Accommodations
  A block of sleeping rooms for conference participants has been reserved for the Imaging the Pancreatic Beta Cell Workshop at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel. The rate is $197 per night for single or double occupancy, plus tax. To receive this reduced rate, please call the hotel and request a room under the room block name NIDDK Imaging the Pancreatic Beta Cell. Reservations must be made by Friday, March 23, 2006, and must be guaranteed with a major credit card. After Friday, March 23, 2006, the hotel will accept reservations on a space-available basis at the prevailing hotel rate.
   
   
  Ground Transportation to Bethesda
   
  Airport Shuttles
  SuperShuttle offers service to most hotels from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore/Washington International Airport. The shuttle leaves on an as-needed basis between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. During other times, arrange for a shuttle by calling 800-258-3826 from the airport. The approximate cost of SuperShuttle for one passenger, one-way to Washington, DC, from Dulles International Airport is $25; from Reagan National Airport, it is $15; and from Baltimore/Washington International Airport, it is $40. Other shuttles include the Maryland Airport Shuttle (301-590-0000) or Yellow Airport Shuttle (301-208-6900).
   
   
  Taxi Service
  Taxicab fares to the hotel from Dulles and Baltimore/Washington International Airports are approximately $60 one-way. The fare from Reagan National Airport is approximately $12 one-way. It is wise to check on the fares before selecting a taxicab.
   
   
  General Driving Directions
  From the North: Take I-95 South to Route 50 West. Route 50 becomes New York Avenue. Take New York Avenue to 7th Street, NW, and turn left. Continue to Independence Avenue and turn right. Proceed to the second traffic light (L'Enfant Plaza) and turn left. The hotel will be at the top of the hill on the left side.
   
  From the South: Take I-95 North to I-395 North. Follow the signs for Route 1 North. Continue to Independence Avenue (second traffic light) and turn right. Proceed to the second traffic light (L'Enfant Plaza) and turn right. The hotel will be at the top of the hill on the left side.
   
  From the West: Take I-66 East and follow the signs for Constitution Avenue to 14th Street, NW, and turn right. At the third traffic light (Independence Avenue) turn left. Proceed to the second traffic light (L'Enfant Plaza) and turn right. The hotel will be at the top of the hill on the left side.
   
  From the Northwest: Take I270 South to I-495 South (toward Virginia). Take the G.W. Parkway South to I-395 North. Follow signs for Route 1 North. Continue to the second traffic light (Independence Avenue) and turn right. Proceed to the second traffic light (L'Enfant Plaza) and turn right. The hotel will be at the top of the hill on the left side.
   
   
  Using the Metro System
  The Metro System is clean and reliable. It operates from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight Monday through Thursday; 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Fridays; 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Saturdays; and 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on Sundays. Each passenger must buy a farecard to travel in the system. Guides for purchasing farecards are posted on the vending machines in each station. Each Metro car features a complete color-coded map. Station attendants on duty at each station can provide additional information on request.
   
  General Metro Directions: Take the blue, yellow, green, or orange line trains to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. There are three exits at the Metro Station. Look for the L'Enfant Plaza exit. The escalator will bring you to the Plaza Level. Take the elevator to the hotel lobby.
   
  From Ronald Reagan National Airport: Take the blue or yellow train to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. There are three exits at the Metro Station. Look for the L'Enfant Plaza exit. The escalator will bring you to the Plaza Level. Take the elevator to the hotel lobby.

  • American "Sea" Grill. Hailed as one of the best Washington, DC, restaurants, the American "Sea" Grill serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a contemporary brasserie-style setting with a focus on fresh seafood and fish for lunch and dinner. Open daily, 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Lobby Lounge. An intimate and comfortable private setting for cocktails and light fare. Open daily, 4:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Foggy Bottom Brew Pub. This lounge pub serves some of the area's best microbrews as well as appetizing pub-like fare. A charming, casual place that is made even more quaint by an elevated model train that circles the bar. Open daily, 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.
