Accommodations
A limited number of sleeping rooms for conference participants has been reserved for the NIDDK Kidney Development and Repair Conference at the host hotel, Hilton Alexandria Old Town. The rate is the prevailing government rate of $188.00 per night for single and double occupancy plus applicable state and local taxes.

To receive this reduced rate, please call Hilton reservations at 1-800-HILTONS or 703-837-0440, and indicate that you are requesting a room for the NIDDK Kidney Development and Repair Conference when making your reservations. Reservations must be made by no later than Monday, January 8, 2007, and must be secured with a major credit card. Please be certain that the hotel provides you with a confirmation number for your reservation. After January 8, 2007, the official room block will be released and the hotel may charge significantly higher rates and may be sold out. When making a reservation, please provide room and bedding preferences. The hotel will assign specific room types on check-in, based upon availability. Please be advised that requests are not guaranteed. Check-in time is at 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is at 11:00 a.m. Internet is available in the rooms for a charge of $9.95 each day.

Ground Transportation To/From Dulles:
The Washington Flyer bus service leaves from the Washington Convention Center downtown terminal at New York Avenue and 11th Street, NW. Departures every 30 minutes, journey time around 45 minutes. Fare: $16 one way, $26 round trip.
Taxi fare from Dulles to Alexandria is approximately $55.

BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BWI)

Group Transportation To/From BWI:
MARC train service takes travelers from BWI to Washington, D.C.'s Union Station (Penn Line). Trains runs approx. every 30 minutes Monday-Friday; fare $5. From Union Station take Metro rail to King Street Metro Station in Old Town Alexandria (fare $2.40). Most hotels offer free shuttle service from the Metro station to their hotel. Metro Directions
Using the Metro System Metrorail offers safe and convenient subway transportation to most of the major attractions in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area. The Metro subway system consists of five color coded rail lines: red, blue, green, orange and yellow. Alexandria is serviced by four convenient Metro stations: King Street (blue and yellow lines), Braddock Road (blue and yellow lines), Eisenhower Avenue (yellow line), and Van Dorn (blue line). Metro station entrances are marked by tall brown pylons topped by a large capital "M" as well as bands of color indicating the lines that are available at that station. All Metro stations are manned by Metro officials who provide security and rider assistance. Metro maps are available inside each station and posted aboard each subway car.

The basic fare is $1.10 with a slight increase during rush hour. Children under four ride free. Fare cards may be purchased from vending machines inside each station. A $5 Metro One Day Pass enables unlimited travel on all lines after 9:30 a.m. on weekdays or all day on weekends. The Pass is available at many Metro stations. Metrobus/Dash Bus

Train Directions
Amtrak, America's only national passenger railroad system, services the City of Alexandria at Union Station, 110 Callahan Drive, located in the city's historic district "Old Town" and next to the King Street Metro. The station is open 6:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.; the ticket window is open 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Visitors utilizing Washington, DC's Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Ave., NE, may take Metrorail to Alexandria (Union Station to King Street). For reservations, call 1-800-USA-RAIL.

Virginia Railway Express (VRE), also leaves from Alexandria's Union Station, 110 Callahan Drive, next to the King Street Metro. Commuter rail service operates Monday-Friday from Northern Virginia to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, DC. VRE offers many varieties of tickets, from a single-ride ticket to a monthly ticket. For tickets, call the Commuter Store at 703/413-4287 between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. From the North (New York/Baltimore): Take I-95 South across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Immediately after the bridge, take exit 177B to US-1 North. Turn left onto King Street and the hotel will be on the right side.

From the South (Richmond): Take I-95 North and veer off onto the Capital Beltway (495 North/95 North towards Baltimore). Continue on I-95 North and exit at I-395 towards Washington, DC. Take Exit 5 (King Street East) and the hotel will be four miles on the left-hand side after the King Street Metrorail station.

From the East: Take US-50 West to the Capital Beltway. Go across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to Exit 177B and then Route 1 (US-1 North). Turn left onto King Street, and the hotel will be on the right side.

From the West: Take I-66 East to the Capital Beltway. Stay on I-95 North to Exit 176B (Telegraph Road). Stay to the right and exit onto 236 East (Alexandria Downtown). Stay straight to go onto Telegraph Road. Follow to Duke Street. Turn a slight left onto Callahan Drive. Turn right onto King Street, and the hotel will be on the left side.

From Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA): Exit airport to George Washington Parkway South. George Washington Parkway becomes Washington Street. Make a right at King Street. The hotel will be on right-hand side after approximately one mile. Or take the Yellow line towards Huntington or the Blue line to Franconia-Springfield. The hotel is located at the King Street Metro station.

From Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD): Take Dulles Airport Access Rd. to VA-267 East. Go straight to the Capital Beltway. Take Exit 2B (Telegraph Road). Stay right and exit onto 236 East. Go straight onto Telegraph. Stay straight onto Duke Street. Make a left on Callahan. Turn right on King Street. The hotel will be on the left. Or, instead of taking a cab, take advantage of Super Shuttle or Sarakel Limo.

Parking Costs at the Hotel:
The hotel offers a rate of USD$20.00 for overnight self-parkers with in and out privileges. For local attendees attending the meeting, the rates are USD$8 if you arrive prior to 8:00 a.m. and USD$10 if you arrive after 8:00 a.m.
